The Environmental Effects on Galaxy Evolution Based on the SDSS Data

چکیده

By constructing a large, uniform galaxy cluster catalog from the SDSS data, we have found that cluster galaxies evolve both spectrally and morphologically. By studying the morphology– cluster-centric-radius relation, we have found two characteristic environments where galaxy morphologies change dramatically. We found passive spiral galaxies in the infalling region of clusters. They are likely to be a galaxy population in transition due to the cluster environment. We also studied E+A galaxies, which have also been thought to be cluster originated. We found that E+As live in all environments including the field region. 1.

The Environment of Galaxies at Low Redshift

We compare environmental effects in two analogous samples of galaxies, one from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the other from a semi-analytic model (SAM) based on the Millennium Simulation (MS), to test to what extent current SAMs of galaxy formation are reproducing environmental effects. We estimate the large-scale environment of each galaxy using a Bayesian density estimator based on...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding  the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and  the distribution of the baryons is gal...

Evolution of Galaxy Luminosity Function and Luminosity Function by Density

Using galaxy sample observed by the BATC large-field multi-color sky survey and galaxy data of SDSS in the overlapped fields, we study the dependence of the restframe r-band galaxy luminosity function on redshift and on large-scale environment. The large-scale environment is defined by isodensity contour with density contrast δρ/ρ. The data set is a composite sample of 69,671 galaxies with reds...

The Environmental Dependencies of Star - formation and the Origin of the Bimodality in Galaxy Properties

We examine the origins of the bimodality observed in the global properties of galaxies by comparing the environmental dependencies of star-formation for giant and dwarf galaxy populations. Using Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) DR4 spectroscopic data to create a volume-limited sample complete to M ⋆ + 3, we find that the environmental dependences of giant and dwarf galaxies are quite different, ...

The massive end of the luminosity and stellar mass functions and clustering from CMASS to SDSS: Evidence for and against passive evolution

We describe the luminosity function, based on Sersic fits to the light profiles, of CMASS galaxies at z ∼ 0.55. Compared to previous estimates, our Sersic-based reductions imply more luminous, massive galaxies, consistent with the effects of Sersicrather than Petrosian or de Vaucouleur-based photometry on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) main galaxy sample at z ∼ 0.1. This implies a signific...
